Chinook Entrepreneur Challenge     Page 12
Phase II
Screening Team divides all the remaining plans and assesses the following:
-
Will the business be in existence in 18 months?
-
Executive Summary rating according to Evaluation Criteria (one or two out of five fails).
Plans that do not pass the above tests are eliminated from the Challenge.
Phase III
The members of the Screening Team review each of the remaining plans according to the
Evaluation Criteria.
The Screening Team will then choose the top eight plans which are then submitted to the
Judging Panel.
Phase IV
The Judges are all provided with hard and electronic copies of the 8 Business Plans.
The Judges use the Evaluation Criteria to rank their top four plans.  Note the key section of the
Evaluation Form is the last one, where Judges make their overall assessment.  The Judges will
be relied on to use their discretion to make the final assessment. Each of the other aspects
being evaluated will influence their decision, but their final assessment may or may not be a
simple calculation.  Some of the criteria will be ranked differently for different business
concepts, and the Judges will be relied on to make the final decisions.
The Judges meet (or teleconference) to present their top six and discuss the rankings.
Rankings can then be revised based on the discussion and final rankings are presented.
Scores are then tallied and the four semi-finalists are chosen.  In the event that two or more
participants are tied in the sixth position, Judges may choose to invite more than four
participants to continue on to Phase V.  This decision would be made at sole discretion of the
Judging Panel.
These semi-finalists are then presented to Organizing Committee for ratification.  Note that
the Organizing Committee retains the right to intervene if a recommended submission
concerns a product or service that is unlawful, would reflect poorly on the reputation of the
Challenge, or is considered harmful with malicious intent to any of the sponsors or any
other reason at the discretion of the Organizing Committee.  Decisions of the Organizing
Committee are final.
The top four semi-finalists are officially notified.
Phase V
On July 12, 2008 the semi-finalists will have the opportunity to provide 15-minute oral
presentations, followed by 15 minutes of discussion (Q&A) with the Judging Panel.
Judges will re-assess the semi-finalists according to the Evaluation Criteria and individually
select their top two choices.  The Judges will discuss their top three choices.
After the discussion, the Judges will then individually rank their top three choices, and the
final three will be chosen based on the cumulative highest scores received from all Judges.
The top two Finalists will proceed to the Final Awards Ceremony.
Phase VI
At the Final Awards Ceremony on July 18, 2008, the top two finalists selected from Phase
V will make their final presentation to the entire audience.  The Judges will then confer and
make their final assessment of the Winners.  All prize winners will be announced that day
and awarded their prizes.
